General Instructions
1. Make sure you have quality replacement parts. Know what type of parts you need based on the product series and the reference sheet on the instruction manual or by visiting the official website of Delta.
2. Turn off water supply to your shower. Most showers typically don’t have individual supply valves so you will most likely have to shut off the water supply to your whole house.
3. Open a faucet in the bathroom to relieve pressure.
4. Cover the drain with a towel or rags to avoid dropping parts in the drain.
Delta 1300/1400 Series Showers & Tub/Showers
1. Use an Allen wrench to loosen the set screw holding the handle in place
2. Remove the handle, trim sleeve, and spacer. This will reveal the cartridge, which is held in place by a bonnet nut.
3. Use a strap wrench or a pair of Channellock pliers to remove the bonnet nut. Set the nut aside in a safe place.
4. Remove the cartridge by pulling it firmly and wiggling it back and forth as you pull it out. When doing this, any remaining water in the line will leak out.
5. Install the new cartridge making sure the hot side marking is on the side of the valve where the hot water comes from, which is usually the left side. Make sure to line up the keys on the side with the slots on the valve.
6. Put the bonnet nut back on. Tighten this using your hands, making sure it is firmly in place.
7. Reassemble the other remaining components of the faucet.
Delta 1700 Series Showers & Tub/Showers
1. Remove the knob cover. Use a screwdriver to remove the temperature control knob.
2. Slide off the handle assembly. Then remove the trim sleeve. This will expose the cartridge assembly, which is held in place by a bonnet nut.
3. Use a strap wrench or Channellock pliers to loosen the bonnet nut by turning it counterclockwise. Once it is loose enough, remove it by hand.
4. Follow steps 4-7 above.
If you have replaced the cartridge of your Delta 1700 series shower faucet and there is still a leak, you may have to replace the seats, springs, and quad seals as well. These are all contained on the adapter, found behind the cartridge on the valve body.
1. Follow steps 1-3 above.
2. Loosen the screw using a screwdriver, then pull out the entire adapter using needle nose pliers.
3. Insert the new adapter, and tighten down the screw.
4. Install the cartridge and the remaining components of the faucet.
