Rheem gas water heaters are known for being some of the best. Unfortunately though, even with the best sometimes users have a little trouble. If you’re experiencing issues with your Rheem gas hot water heater then read on to find out some information that may help you fix the problem before calling in a professional.
Cold showers are the worst, but scalding hot ones aren’t fun either. If your water is running either way too hot or way too cold there may be an issue with the temperature limiting valve. If your temperature is too high then make sure that the temperature limiting valve is set to limit how high the temperature gets. If you don’t have one then you may need to have one installed. In the case of colder than expected water, make sure that you haven’t set the limit too low, or been using a significant amount of hot water recently.
The first thing to check is to make sure that the gas and electricity are working to the unit. If they are and you still don’t have hot water, make sure that the temperature on the heater itself is set high enough. If it is too low then you won’t have any hot water at all.
This valve protects your hot water heater by allowing small amounts of water to escape, thus relieving pressure. But if your valve is leaking continuously then there is a problem. Make sure that there is no debris in the valve. If there is a steady stream of water you will need to make sure that the pressure limiting valve is installed correctly and the right pressure for your unit.
While condensation on the outside of your hot water heater is normal, a steady leak is not. Turn off your water and call a plumber. All units will fail eventually and need to be replaced and it’s possible that that’s what is occurring with yours. A plumber can quickly tell if that’s the problem and is helpful in making decisions about how to replace or repair your unit.
