At some point in time, a faucet is likely to start leaking. While it is often just a small leak that may go unnoticed, there are incidents in which the faucet is spraying out water when not in use. Regardless of the leak, all leaking sinks must be fixed so water is not being wasted and unused. Also, to prevent any messes from occurring.

Sink Drain Leaking and Tips for Fixing It

A leaking sink is not only a nuisance, but it can also waste plenty of water. In the event of a leaking faucet, the person will need to locate the leak and take the necessary steps to fix it. While it may take some time, it is not very difficult to fix a leak in a sink.

Locate the Problem

The first step you need to take is to figure out where the leaking is coming from. You already know the leak has to do with the drain, but you need to be much more specific, that way you can decide how to properly fix the leak.

Decide whether the leak is coming from the drain line or the pressurized water hose. If it is the water hose, water will be spraying out. If it is not the water hose, then you may not notice the leak unless you are using the sink. In that case, it is probably the drain line. If the problem occurs when the sink is full, and you notice the water start to drain, it may be the seal around the sink drain.

Fixing the Drain Leak

Now that you have figured out where the leak is coming from, you need to figure out why it is happening. Possibilities include a clogged drain, corrosion, or a loose connection.

If you suspect a drainage, then take the necessary steps to unclog the drain. If that doesn’t solve the problem, try tightening the connections. If the connections are corroded, you have found your problem and you will need to replace them.

Other Solutions

If for some reason, you are not able to locate where the leak is coming from or the reason, there are other options. Most drain leaks can be fixed by inserting plumbers putty into the drain, which will require you to remove the parts.

If this does not work, depending on what type of sink you have, you may need to remove all of the parts and replace the washers or the gaskets.
